Vision Statement
We envision a more equitable, just and egalitarian food system, centered around a communally-owned and -operated grocery store and gathering space. The Beet Goes On is part of a larger cooperative movement. We are working towards a more holistic understanding of food as a system and not a chain. We are reclaiming our food system from corporations and empowering our community to build even more than just an alternative. We endeavor to build a campus food community that unites students, faculty, administrators, staff and neighbors around a common table.
Statement of Purpose
The Beet Goes On is a student-led, autonomous food collective seeking to change the way the Haverford College community eats and grocery shops. We will make local, sustainable food accessible and affordable. We will always be owned and operated by our workers and customers.
Mission Statement
As an open collective, we strive to:
- provide access to ethical, sustainable, high quality food to the Haverford community at the lowest possible cost
- spread awareness about food origins and ingredients;
- include all members of the Haverford community and its neighbors, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disability, employment status, language aptitude, social group, age or any other social marker;
- learn-through-action about alternative business models and fiscal accountability;
- support and develop relationships with local farms;
- create a long-lasting structure that will outlive our time at Haverford;
- work in harmony with other Haverford groups and encourage collaboration;
- build a viable alternative to the present corporate-controlled food system; &
- join and contribute to a growing movement of campus-based food collectives.
